How to calculate a savings goal?
Enter the target amount, term and expected annual rate. The calculator finds the monthly contribution that, with interest, reaches the goal. The longer the term and higher the rate, the smaller the monthly saving.
How it is calculated
Formula
required monthly contribution: PMT = FV × r ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1), where FV is the goal, r the monthly rate and n the number of months.
Example
Goal 20,000 € in 10 years, 5% per year → ≈ 128.76 €/month.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the monthly contribution needed to reach a goal?+
The calculator works backwards: from the goal, term and interest rate it finds the monthly amount you need to save.
Does the interest rate affect the required contribution much?+
Yes. A higher return lowers the required monthly contribution, since part of the goal is covered by earned interest.
