How are working days counted?
Working days run Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Estonia has 12: New Year, Independence Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Spring Day, Pentecost, Victory Day, Midsummer Day, Day of Restoration of Independence, Christmas Eve and both Christmas days. The working day before New Year, Independence Day, Victory Day and Christmas Eve is shortened by 3 hours - the calculator reflects this in the hours total.
Working days and hours in 2026, month by month
The table below uses the same logic as the calculator: Monday to Friday, public holidays removed, an 8-hour day and minus 3 hours on each shortened pre-holiday day. February has the fewest working hours, July the most.
- January: 21 working days, 168 hours (New Year 1.01 is a Thursday)
- February: 19 working days, 149 hours (24.02 is a Tuesday, 23.02 is shortened)
- March: 22 working days, 176 hours
- April: 21 working days, 168 hours (Good Friday 3.04, Easter Sunday 5.04)
- May: 20 working days, 160 hours (Spring Day 1.05 on a Friday, Pentecost 24.05 on a Sunday)

The full year: why 2026 and 2027 differ
Entering 01.01.2026 to 31.12.2026 gives 365 calendar days, 104 weekend days, 9 holidays on weekdays and 252 working days. The hours total is 2004 because four days are 3 hours shorter. Three holidays fall on a weekend in 2026: Easter Sunday, Pentecost and the second Christmas day (26.12 is a Saturday).
In 2027 more holidays land on weekends: Spring Day 1.05 and the first Christmas day 25.12 are Saturdays, and the second Christmas day is a Sunday. That gives 254 working days and 2020 hours. Because Estonia does not move a weekend holiday to a weekday, the yearly hours depend directly on the calendar.
Three examples for planning leave and projects
Leave around Midsummer, 15.06-30.06.2026: 16 calendar days, including 4 weekend days and 2 holidays (23.06 and 24.06). That leaves 10 working days and 77 hours, since 22.06 is a shortened day (10 × 8 - 3 = 77).
The holiday season 21.12.2026-08.01.2027: 19 calendar days, 4 weekend days and 3 holidays on weekdays (24.12, 25.12 and 1.01). There are 12 working days but only 90 hours, because both 23.12 and 31.12 are shortened (12 × 8 - 6).
Early April, 01.04-10.04.2026: 10 calendar days, 2 weekend days and one weekday holiday (Good Friday 3.04). Easter Sunday 5.04 is counted among weekend days, not holidays. Result: 7 working days, 56 hours.
How to read the result correctly
Both dates are included. The period 22.06-26.06.2026 is one working week, yet it gives only 3 working days and 21 hours: two days are holidays and the Monday is shortened.
The holidays row only lists holidays that actually reduced the working-day count. Pentecost never appears there, because the first day of Pentecost is always a Sunday.
The hours figure assumes a full-time 8-hour day. If your schedule differs, take the number of working days and multiply it by your real daily hours.
Common mistakes and limitations
Monthly working hours in 2026 range from 149 to 184. With the same monthly salary that means a different hourly value: 1800 € over February's 149 hours is 12.08 € per hour, over July's 184 hours it is 9.78 €. Keep this in mind when comparing a monthly salary with an hourly rate.
- Forgetting movable holidays: Good Friday and Pentecost depend on Easter, so Good Friday is 3.04 in 2026 but 26.03 in 2027.
- Leaving out the end date when counting by hand, although the calculator includes it.
- Treating a shortened day as a day off, when it is a working day that is only 3 hours shorter.
- The calculator shortens 31.12, 23.02, 22.06 and 23.12 only when those dates are weekdays. If one of them falls on a weekend, no shortened day is counted for it.
- Shift work, averaged working time and weekend work need a separate schedule, because the calculator always treats Monday to Friday as working days.
